Yes, if you missed the Wallingford Farmers Market on July 15th, you missed peach-cots. They are a cross between peaches and apricots from Tiny’s. Tiny’s seems to always find the latest, greatest new fruit creation before anyone else. I am just waiting for nectareaches. It is just a matter of time.
Alvarez had the first okra of the season on the 15th. In fact, very few Washington farms grow okra, so take advantage of your access to what Alvarez has to offer. Oh, and Alvarez had the first eggplant of the season, too, as well as more chickpeas, and this lovely sweet corn.
We enjoyed a great cooking demonstration from Chef Allyss Dillon from Elemental Next Door on July 15th, too.
Chef Dillon showed us how to make a great pesto with Alm Hill shelling peas and fava beans, as well as how to make a sabayon sauce from Sea Breeze eggs to serve over fresh fruit from the market. Sea Breeze also offers a lot of other great products, straight from their Vashon Island farm, like this fresh ricotta cheese and back leaf lard.
Family Pepper had the first sweet Gypsy peppers of the season. I love to simply grill these, but they are also great stuffed.
With so many vegetables to grill now, and with it too hot to cook inside many days, it is no wonder the line was long at Wilson Fish. Heck, you can put the whole meal on the barby, right?
Of course, if you are taking the cool kitchen route of salads, BLTs or caprese, don’t forget some tomatoes, like these beautiful Striped German tomatoes from Billy’s.
So I do hope you didn’t miss the Market on July 15th. But if you did, I imagine you won’t do that again, right?
